Folks have statistics on water flow detention rates (not exactly sure what it is called) - the length of time a given water drop will remain in a lake before it moves on.

According to the WDNR:

Lake Erie - 6 years
Lake Superior - 191 years, with a complete "flush" turnover of all water once every 450 years.

Plus, back in the day, those northen mills dumped everything possible up there. So even if you don't care about swimming in poop water, watch out for that third ear when you get out. Glowing elbow too.

That's an interesting find. I would have suspected any beach along the Superior shoreline to be cleaner than any beach along the Winnebago shoreline. Time to reevaluate my thoughts on the old 'Bago.
