Our friends over at OSNW3 OSHKOSH-NORTH have responded to the gap in readily available data for actual Oshkosh rain figures. This stems from a common council meeting where the data was unavailable, and it was obvious that no councilors were familiar with the figures, nor was city staff.
OSN reviewed all the rain data for the city dating back to the 1800s, and assembled a list of all 24 hour rain events which experienced greater than 3 inches of rain.
This rain data is available as a spreadsheet HERE.
Nice work to OSN, the finest online source for Oshkosh weather.

Wow! That really puts the 2008 flood in perspective! Not only was one of the two rain days among the worst EVER, the two rainfalls five days apart = over 8 inches of rain, by far the worst ever! That is really incredible.
What are the odds of that happening again any time soon? Not likely?
Justin, thanks for sharing the data! The WinSLAMM software is quite technical of things I know little about. I do have friends that make their living deducing storm water drainage systems however, and I plan to consult them.
Ron, there is no doubt that those two days in June were the heaviest rains ever. As for the odds of that happening again... from the data it's evident that the events happened in clumps of time. Ten events in th first 50 years of data collection, then between '45 & '75, nothing. Then ten more events since '75. Trends would say that we are on track for a 30 year hiatus from +3" daily rain totals. Ha. :)
But with our ever changing and volatile atmosphere anything is possible.
4" events
8181 average days between events
22.4 average years between events
5" events
13635 average days between events
37.3 average years between events
The all-time record 24hr rainfall is 5.4 on 8/4/1924
Also, if you're interested I have archived radar loops of the storms in June of 2008.
Click on the "Daily Weather Description" from the first link, or just follow the direct links to the two storm loops.
