Becket's Restaurant Preview

Becket's Restaurant officially opens its doors this Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in downtown Oshkosh at the City Center. The duo ownership team of Oshkosh native Kris Larson and head chef Mike Buckarama, along with a little design assistance from Oshkosh architect (and dad) Jim Larson, have combined to create a superb setting that is original, modern and intimate.

Beckets features a diverse menu rich in seafood choices, vegetarian entrees, steaks, and salads, as well as featured items including the mahi-mahi en papiotte and the slow roasted St Louis ribs. Appetizers range from the routine chicken tenders to grilled veggie quesadillas to a platter of home-made chips and fresh pico de gallo.

Wednesdays offer a special that appeals to those of us with little monsters, and was likely the result of intense pressure from sister and mother of two Jenna Larson, as Becket's provides free eats to children.

Indoor seating is available for 200, with an additional 60 outdoor seating along the Fox River. Banquet facilities are also available, with seating for upwards of 600.

The name Becket's comes from the original designer of the City Center, Welton Becket. Take a look at the menu for more information on Becket, the restaurant, and the food.

Went for dinner last night. -Fabulous.
More details later. Gotta run.

thanks for the notice. i had not heard of the place. my family is looking forward to eating there this weekend.

Congratulations on the opening of Becket’s! Food/drinks were great! From what I understand, the Clam Chowder is some of the best around. Our Prime Rib and Lobster were the awesome! What a beautiful setting. The layout/design is perfect for all customers, from casual to best dressed.

Went there two nights ago and had a horrible experience. Service and food. Chicken was raw in the middle and servers really didn't seem to care. This seems like a trendy place that might take off but overall I thought that service and quality was well beyond sub par.

Comments should be intelligent, and at least provide or contribute value. If you read through your comment, and it doesn't meet this, please don't post it here.

Statements like "terrible food" and "it sucked" do not provide any information or value to any reader, and simply serve to make this site and its users look stupid.

If you had a problem with the food, state: "I ordered the fillet mignon medium rare, and it came out dry, chewy, and rather tasteless." That way someone looking to gain some insight into the place actually has some real feedback.

If you are going to provide irrelevant comments, than at least provide a name. For instance, if Water City chef Nolan says, "the food was terrible", we'd take that statement as a valuable contribution because chef Nolan knows his shit and people value his opinion.

We here at Mainstreet value comments, as well as the freedom to post anonymously, but we also recognize that anonymous rants that criticize without stating anything of value actually are detrimental to the site and to its users.

We went last night. Our 6 year old ordered the chicken plans and could not eat them. The actual chicken was paper thin and covered with lots of fried batter stuff. I had the Margarita Chicken and thought the flavor was good, but it seemed as if it was cooked long before it was served and left to stay warm in some kind of liquid. Not fresh at all and only barely warm when served. Likewise with the sauteed veggies, but they were flavorless. My husband's fish was "okay". The worst part about the meal, though, was that we all had gastrointestinal problems for the remainder of the evening. No good.h

Sorry for those typos... That was the Children's Chicken Planks.
I want to add my positive comments: I really enjoyed the setting and think it's super they moved into that building. If I ever were a repeat visitor (doubtful)I would skip the food and opt for a few drinks with friends and enjoy the outdoor seating. But I don't go out for drinks with friends. Maybe in five years...

HORRIBLE SERVICE! Was not welcomed when walked in. Was not helped at the bar until at least 8 min. and they were not busy at all. Sat outside (not by a staff member because no one offered) and it took 15 min. for a waiter to take our order. Waiter hit on me and my friend multiple times. Our bill was wrong and he instisted I said something that I didn't. Greatly annoyed by this place and probably won't go back unless I want a painful experience all over again!

Ate here on Saturday night. The Prime Rib was the best I've ever had. My friends Bourbon Rib eye steak was TO DIE FOR as well! Can't wait to go back and try the Lake Perch and Cod on Friday night!!!

I went there September 7th. I really like the layout and atmosphere of the restaurant and bar. I also enjoyed seeing the wood benches from the old mall. But that's about it! I had the tilapia which was good and My friend had the cod which she described as "chewy." The service was awful. Our waitress didn't know what was going on at all! It took her over 15 minutes to bring our first drinks (wine)! And there was hardly anyone in the restaurant! She didn't know the menu at all either - my friend said she wanted broiled cod and the waitress insisted they only had beer battered. And after we finished eating, we sat around and waited for the bill for over 20 minutes. I WANT to like this place, but if the service doesn't improve I definitely will not go back.

We ate there tonight and overall was not very good. I ordered the Margarita Chicken which was dry, bland and topped with a guacamole that seemed to lack avocado. My Wife had the beer battered cod. The batter was nice and crisp and tasted good but the fish was over cooked and rubbery. Both of our meals came with a mashed potato croquette which was cooked very well and not greasy but had a strange chemical like taste to it that made it inedible. Some sort of freezer odor? The sauteed veggies tasted like they were cooked in that popcorn oil they use at the movie theater. On the upside my 2 year old had a grilled cheese which was great and the fries that came with it were perfect. Tuesday's are .25 cent wing days so we ordered 12 and at that price even though they were nothing special I'd give them a A-. Overall I'd compare Becket's to bad trip to applebee's with a 25% increase in price. I would go back only for .25 cent wings, beers and hanging out on their out door patio.

Great place to dine.
It started out slow, but now it's first class. And my wife, and frinds love the live jazz.
KWT4 are a fantastic jazz group. And singer Erin Boheme makes the evening fun.

My friend and I just had lunch at Becket's today. Great service and the lunch special was great! I also have friends that love your happy hour atmosphere. Keep your heads up and keep on keeping on!

We had a gift certificate for Becket's and decided to try it last Friday. We were seated in a booth. First, if you look behind the booths, there are plants that haven't been watered. There is dirt and dust. Not to mention old food and butter packets. How does this place pass inspection? That should have given us a hint to what our dinner would like. My husband had the pecan crusted walleye. He said it tasted like pure sage and it was grey. His special potatoes tasted like they had been sitting in a refrigerator for days. I had the perch. It didn't even taste like perch, it was old and probably frozen. My daughter had a burger and fries. The fries were so soaked in oil we had to to use a paper towel to wring them out. If we would have had to pay for this meal, we would have complained. As it is, we are telling everyone to never go there and we will never be back.

Rogge,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on urbanspoon (as well as multiple other sites). Our aim, of course, is to never have anyone leave our restaurant unhappy in any way...and I am very sorry we were so far from that mark last week during your visit. I would live the chance to discuss this with you further, and hopefully make it up to you with a gift certificate for you to give us another try (if you would be so kind to be willing)...you are anonymous everywhere online, so I have no way to get in touch...but if you would be willing to come back, send an email to Welton@becketsrestaurant.com and I will send along a certificate.

Many thanks again for taking the time to write,
Kris
